Arsenal can quickly bounce back from Saturday's disappointment at Bournemouth as they take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Gunners, without several key names and reduced to ten men in the first half, were drab on the south coast and deservedly beaten 2-0 by the Cherries - their first Premier League away defeat in 2024.

Overreactions were rife in the aftermath, but there's no denying that there were a couple of concerning aspects surrounding Arsenal's peformance at the weekend.

But hey, Gooner smiles will swiftly return with a productive outing against Shakhtar. Arsenal sit 13th in the league phase table after securing a 2-0 win over PSG on Matchday 2, while Tuesday's visitors have mustered a point from their opening two games having been put to the sword by Atalanta last time out.

The 15-time Ukrainian champions are also yet to kick into gear domestically this season. Marino Pusic's side sit fourth in the Ukrainian Premier League through nine games. losing twice.

Arsenal vs Shakhtar Donetsk Head-to-Head Record

As you'd expect, meetings between Arsenal and Shakhtar have been rare. There have been four games between the two - all in the Champions League group stage - with the team at home winning every encounter. Shakhtar avenged a 3-2 defeat at Highbury in 2000 with a 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture that mattered little in terms of Arsenal's standing in the group, and it was a similar story ten years later as the Ukrainian side edged past the Gunners having succumbed convincingly at the Emirates.

  • Arsenal Team News

Arsenal were without Bukayo Saka on Saturday after he tweaked his hamstring on international duty, and I'd be surprised if he was risked on Tuesday with Liverpool's visit imminent. Raheem Sterling deserves another chance.

Ben White and Gabriel Martinelli were fit enough to feature at the weekend, and both should start here. There's more doubt over Jurrien Timber, whom Arteta said was "quite close" to returning before Saturday's defeat. Oleksandr Zinchenko is nearing a comeback, too, but Arsenal remain without Martin Odegaard, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Kieran Tierney.

William Saliba's suspension only counts towards domestic fixtures.

Predicted Arsenal lineup vs Shakhtar: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Nwaneri, Merino; Sterling, Havertz, Martinelli.

    Shakhtar Donetsk team news

Danylo Sikan has recovered from a broken nose and is in contention to start on Tuesday. Sikan was Shakhtar's leading scorer in the Ukrainian Premier League last season, netting ten times.

If Sikan does come back in, he'll replace 20-year-old Eguinaldo up top.

Goalkeeper Tymur Puzankov has been a long-term absentee with a knee injury.

Predicted Shakhtar lineup vs Arsenal: Riznyk; Konoplya, Bondar, Matviyenko, Pedrinho; Kryskiv; Zubkov, Bondarenko, Sudakov, Newerton; Sikan.

Arsenal vs Shakhtar Donetsk Score Prediction

Talk about the ideal get-right game for Arsenal ahead of Liverpool's visit on Sunday. Expect the Gunners to spread their wings against a side that simply aren't of the requisite level.

While Shakhtar perhaps should've beaten Bologna on Matchday 1, they were cast aside by Atalanta last time out and their domestic form would suggest this is not a supreme iteration of the Ukrainian behemoths.

The Gunners are unlikely to completely blow teams out of the water in the absence of Odegaard and Saka, but they should keep their visitors at bay and saunter to a comfortable continental victory.

    Prediction: Arsenal 3-0 Shakhtar Donetsk
