Arsenal will be going for the kill against Newcastle, with Mikel Arteta's side looking to overturn a 2-0 deficit in the Carabao Cup.
If you wanted to know Arsenal's plan of attack with Mikel Arteta's side 2-0 down against Newcastle as the Gunners approach the second leg of the Carabao Cup, you needn't wonder no more.
They're going for the throat.
Fresh off a 5-1 win over Manchester City that has seen the feel-good vibes and confidence levels reach heights not seen for quite some time; the Gunners are ready to roll at St. James' Park.
But being 2-0 down comes with a certain mental handbrake that could be applied. After all, one Newcastle goal is all it would take to bring Arsenal's Carabao Cup final dream to a halt.
Which is why it is crucial that the Gunners score first at St. James' Park and put the doubt in the Magpies' minds, after all, they are coming off a 2-1 home loss to Fulham in the Premier League, so there may be some mental fragilities there.
And for Arteta, his team will be all gas, no brakes as they look to overturn the 2-0 deficit.
"When you compare the emotional state of the team straight after the defeat and the manner that it happened and how we are, today is very different because we come from very strong performances, some great wins and especially the last one at home against Manchester City," Arteta said via arsenal.com. "So, keep this momentum and after that game we'll have a break so it’s the moment to go full gas, ready to go for it and try to approach it in the way that we believe is the best one to be in that final."
The Gunners don't exactly have the best of records against Newcastle of late, only winning two of their last seven games in all competitions, so Arteta's team will need to buck the trend to advance to Wembley.
It looms as a tough task, but maybe the City win came at exactly the right time and against the perfect team. If the Gunners can lay waste to Pep Guardiola's side, then coming up against a Newcastle side should fill Arsenal with confidence that a positive result can be had.
But Eddie Howe's team is a dangerous one, and while the Gunners want to win, they must keep the back door shut because, as we learned in the first leg, the Magpies can be clinical.
Still, Arteta is having his side go for the throat in an attempt to make the Carabao Cup final, after all, what's to lose?
