Some things just don't make sense in football. There are some transfers that make everyone scratch their heads as to why they happened in the first place.
There are some transfers that make people scratch their heads as to why they happened at that price. Noni Madueke going to Arsenal was one of those transfers, and that was all for the good reasons for Arsenal and the bad ones for Chelsea.
Arsenal have now received a player that they can rely on consistently on either wing. Chelsea don't have that player anymore.
They did receive a really, really good sum for that player, but they've also lost the services of one of the most underrated wingers in the Premier League.
Each game where Madueke will score or assist for Arsenal, it will become less and less clear why Chelsea decided to sell him in the first place.
Chelsea have quite a few wingers, to be absolutely fair to them, but Madueke would have been one of the better ones.
Noni Madueke is one of the most versatile wingers in the Premier League
He wouldn't have been the best one because they've still got Pedro Neto, who's been really good in Madueke's preferred position, and they've now got Estevão, who has rocked up in the Champions League in the best possible way after scoring against Barcelona earlier this week.
But it is still worth noting that Madueke is a really good winger, and he can easily play on the left when required. He has played under that for Arsenal as well, and he's looked even better on that side, surprisingly.
It makes sense why Arsenal signed him, and I guess if I wanted to make sense of it, I could potentially understand why Chelsea thought he was surplus to requirement on the right, but he definitely would have been used on the left.
And it makes little sense as to why they didn't even consider that before selling him to one of their biggest rivals no less.
That's one more factor that I have thought of. Even if you want to sell a player like Madueke because he is surplus to requirements, it would probably not be the best idea to sell him to one of your biggest rivals, who also happen to be one of the best teams in the world, if not the best.
So it is odd that Chelsea decided to do that. Make it make sense.
