Arsenal faces a huge task to overturn the 2-0 deficit against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, but the Gunners are in a confident mood.
Arsenal will need everything to go right if it is to advance to the Carabao Cup final, with Newcastle having a 2-0 advantage and on home soil after a first-leg win.
The Gunners are in a confident mood, however, winning five of their last six games which includes the 5-1 hammering of Manchester City at the Emirates in what was a timely confidence booster for Mikel Arteta's side.
After the Newcastle loss and the FA Cup loss to Manchester United a few days later, the club had such a dark cloud hanging over it. However, the Gunners have picked themselves up and are now bang in form.
And with the confidence from the City win coursing through their veins, Arteta says that his team has gotten a big boost and are ready to bring all the smoke to St. James' Park.
"The next step is a final in Wembley so we know how big that is, and you can feel it straight away," Arteta said via arsenal.com. "The boost the game against City gave us, the manner that we won it, and the fact that it is a game in the competition where we are closest to a final, so we're going to give it a real go."
But while being confident is one thing, the Gunners must also be wary of the Magpies' attacking threat. After all, they were clinical in the first leg at the Emirates despite Arsenal dominating large portions of the game.
Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon were on the score sheet then, and all it will take is one Newcastle goal to drive the dagger through Arsenal hearts and end the match as a contest.
Being at home, the Magpies will likely be looking for the kill early, so the Gunners must be ready to withstand what will no doubt be a tough first 15 or so minutes. Survive that, and then Arsenal must take it to the hosts.
With the City win no doubt lifting the spirits of the squad, now they must turn that into tangible results, starting with Newcastle.
It will be anything but easy for Arsenal, but there is a big carrot dangling in front of Arteta's side at St. James' Park - win and you're in the Carabao Cup final.
