Arsenal have learned they would have to pay a chunk of the £67.5million fee if they are to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, according to the Guardian's Ed Aarons.

Gunners officials have held initial talks with the Eagles with the FA Cup champions believed to have indicated Mikel Arteta's side would need to pay £35m upfront with the remainder of the fee paid in instalments.

Palace are said to not be willing to accept any offers below Eze's release clause while a bid from Arsenal outside that figure is anticipated to come soon. While the south London side may not want to let him go for such a price, Eze is keen on a move and that could help a possibile deal materialise.

Arsenal may find it difficult to strike a move with those conditions. They have already spent almost £200m this summer and that would explain their reluctance to match the exact figures of Eze's release clause.

However, the Gunners could offload several players in the coming weeks as they look to prioritise outgoings following their heavy spending. Mikel Arteta's side should enjoy some success with Fulham said to be in advanced talks to sign Reiss Nelson while Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira have all attracted interest from multiple clubs.

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Albert Sambi Lokonga could also depart, giving Arsenal plenty of chances to increase the necessary funds to pursue a move for Eze.

There could be some changes in the deal though, with the midfielder's release clause thought to expire before the Premier League season begins on 16 August. While that should make negotiations slightly easier for the Gunners, the expiration isn't expected to affect Palace's valuation, partly due to Queens Park Rangers holding a 20% sell-on clause for Eze.

Despite potential bumps in the road, Arsenal should be able to strike a deal for Eze. They have began initial talks and understand the current conditions of a possible move. The player is said to be keen on moving to north London and that will certainly help the Gunners while Andrea Berta will likely be able to use his expert negotiating skills, just as he did when signing Viktor Gyokeres.

Eze will certainly be costly for Arsenal, but if they can sanction sales and negotiate a deal, they should be hopeful that they can secure a transfer.
