Arsenal's Champions League draw: Complete head-to-head record against all league phase opponents

Arsenal found out who they will take on in the Champions League league phase earlier today and they have been dealt clashes with a number of familiar foes and new faces.

The Gunners will host Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lille and Sabah in North London and are set to travel to face Bayern Munich, Real Betis, Napoli and Slavia Prague.

As Mikel Arteta's side prepare for eight tough clashes in Europe's premier competition, we've taken a look at Arsenal's head-to-head record against each of their Champions League opponents.

Arsenal's head-to-head record against Champions League opponents

Real Madrid

Real Madrid are one of Arsenal's two toughest opponents, but the head-to-head record certainly wouldn't reflect that. Along with Ipswich Town, Lille and Aberdeen, the Gunners are one of the only teams that remain undefeated against the Los Blancos in European games.

They met in the quarter-finals of the 2024/25 edition and Arteta's side ran out resounding winners across two legs. The first tie at the Emirates Stadium ended in a 3-0 victory for Arsenal with Declan Rice netting a brace of incredible free kicks before Gabriel Martinelli's late strike secured a 2-1 win at the Bernabéu.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich represent the other of Arteta's biggest challenges and arguably comes out on top in terms of difficulty as they will host his side at the Allianz Arena.

The 35-time Bundesliga champions have been regular opponents for Arsenal in the Champions League and Europe, having met 15 times previously. Bayern enjoy the better of the record, but it was the Gunners who came out on top in their last meeting with a 3-1 triumph at the Emirates in last season's league phase.

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have been handed a trip to North London in the league phase and they will be hoping to replicate their latest visit.

The Black and Yellow travelled to the Emirates in pre-season and came away 3-2 victors in the Emirates Cup, but they will know how different things will be when the Gunners have their competitive faces on.

Real Betis

Arsenal are yet to face Real Betis in a competitive match, but did take them on in a pre-season friendly in Dublin this summer. The Spanish side were victorious 3-1 in the Irish capital following a sloppy performance from the Gunners.

The clash could see a reunion with Héctor Bellerín, who captained his side in the friendly win.

Lille

Like Betis, Lille have also never played Arsenal, but they will also offer a potential return for a former Gunner. Olivier Giroud will be eager to revisit the club, where he scored 105 times in 253 appearances.

Napoli

Last season's Serie A runners-up, Napoli will welcome Arteta's side to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona for their first clash with the North Londoners since 2019.

The two sides met in the quarter-finals of the 2018/19 Europa League, with Unai Emery overseeing a 3-0 aggregate victory for Arsenal.

Sabah

As Champions League newcomers, Sabah have never faced Arsenal before, but the Gunners are familiar with one team from Azerbaijan.

They played Qarabag in the group stage of the 2018/19 Europa League, winning 3-0 in Baku and 1-0 at the Emirates. Sabah will be hoping to pull off a miracle their compatriots couldn't.

Slavia Prague

The Czech champions Slavia Prague join Bayern Munich as one of the two sides that Arsenal played in last season's league phase who they will face again and they will be welcoming the Gunners to the capital once again.

Arteta's side managed a dominant 3-0 victory in Prague last season as Bukayo Saka netted from the penalty spot before Mikel Merino sealed the win with a second-half double.
