Arsenal's Women's Super League campaign begins with an away trip to Brighton & Hove Albion this Sunday. The Gunners finished second to Manchester City last season, so Renée Slegers will be looking to hit the ground running.
Slegers has been Arsenal's head coach since 2025, and she has won the Champions League and the Champions Cup. However, domestic silverware has eluded them under Slegers. They finished just four points behind City last season, so winning the WSL is well within their reach.
Predicted Arsenal lineup vs Brighton (4-3-3)
Goalkeeper & defenders
GK: Daphne van Domselaar
It was against Brighton in the last campaign that Daphne van Domselaar won the WSL's Save of the Season. Gunners fans will be hoping that the Netherlands international will not be called into action too much on this occasion.
RB: Emily Fox
The USWNT left-back, Emily Fox, is effective at both ends of the pitch. She is comfortable in possession and astute defensively. Fox will need to be in form to keep former Chelsea forward Fran Kirby quiet.
CB: Leah Williamson
Leah Williamson has experience of winning the WSL with Arsenal in the 2018/19 season. That was the last time the Gunners won the division. Her leadership qualities go without saying, as she has captained England to two European Championship victories.
CB: Steph Catley
Williamson's centre-back partner is expected to be Steph Catley, who has been with the Gunners since 2020. The Australian international has similar traits to Williamson in being able to distribute the ball well. If the Gunners are looking to defend their lead, then Lotte Wubben-Moy is an option for another centre-back.
LB: Ona Batlle
Ona Batlle joined Arsenal this summer from Barcelona. She has previous experience in the WSL, having played for Manchester United. The Spain international is a very attacking full-back.
Midfielders
CM: Kim Little
Kim Little is now 36, but brings with her a wealth of experience. This will be her 12th season at Arsenal across two stints at the club. Little is still an engine in Arsenal's midfield. It will be an interesting midfield battle to see Little go up against her former Gunners teammate Lia Wälti in this fixture.
CM: Georgia Stanway
Another new signing for Arsenal is Georgia Stanway. She has returned to the WSL after a spell in Germany with Bayern Munich. The former City player is now a Gunner, and her energy will be a huge asset to Slegers' side.
CM: Mariona Caldentey
Mariona Caldentey is one of the most creative players in the WSL. Arsenal will be looking to her to unlock Brighton's defense. Slegers could even turn to Frida Maanum in order to add even more of an attacking threat against the Seagulls.
Forwards
RW: Selina Cerci
Selina Cerci has also arrived at Arsenal this summer from Germany. She has joined from Hoffenheim and has the pace to hurt a lot of WSL defences. Cerci will need to start well for Arsenal, as the Gunners still have Chloe Kelly as an option on the wing.
CF: Alessia Russo
Alessia Russo scored 13 WSL goals last season, which was second only to Bunny Shaw. Russo will be hoping to top the charts this campaign, and that would be instrumental to Arsenal's bid to win the WSL. The Gunners have strength in depth up front with Stina Blackstenius and Michelle Agyemang as both options for Slegers.
LW: Olivia Smith
Olivia Smith has just won the PFA Women's Young Player of the Year Award for the second season running. The former Liverpool player scored the Gunners' opener against Corinthians in the Champions Cup earlier this year. She will be hoping to add more silverware to her cabinet with Arsenal.
