Chelsea have enquired about bringing Nuno Tavares back to London. The former Arsenal defender is in great form with his new club Lazio.
Arsenal are one of those clubs where you can arrive as a hero but leave as a zero. It is a huge club but that can be detrimental for some players who aren't quite ready for that jump. After all, there is a tonne of pressure which comes with representing Arsenal.
One of those players who unfortunately suffered that fate in recent seasons is Nuno Tavares. The Portugal international arrived at Arsenal in 2021 but since then, he's only made a measly 22 appearances.
Currently, Nuno Tavares is on loan at Napoli. The defender is in incredible form, performing as one of the best players for the team currently leading the Scudetto race.
After his loan spell, Napoli have an obligation to buy Nuno Tavares. So, while he is still considered an Arsenal player, fans do not anticipate his return to the Emirates Stadium after his loan spell.
Chelsea make an enquiry to keep Arsenal flop in London
According to a report from Alfredo Pedulla, Chelsea have made an enquiry about signing Nuno Tavares from Napoli, when he formally arrives in the summer transfer window.
Naturally, though, Lazio do not want to lose Nuno Tavares. Pedulla insists that it is not within Lazio's intention to sell Pedulla to Chelsea or any club for that matter.
Arsenal might be kicking themselves at this point in time. Of course, Nuno Tavares plays in a position which is injury-struck for them. It is just the nature of Arsenal football club that they give up on a player only for him to go and play as one of the best in his position.
We wouldn't have it any other way, would we?
Of course, Chelsea are not the type of side to roll over and accept rejection in the transfer window. They are one of those clubs who will loiter around and make their presence known, regardless of Lazio's intentions to keep Nuno Tavares.
It is quite clear that Chelsea are not put off by the Tavares they saw in London previously.
