Christian Nørgaard has revealed that the reason why he left Arsenal was to have a bigger role at a football club.
It does not come as a shock to anyone reading this that Nørgaard was surplus to requirements for Arsenal last season.
After joining Everton earlier in the week, he had his official announcement published on social media as well as the club's website.
Nørgaard also had an interview, where he talked about why he decided to leave Arsenal for Everton.
In the interview, the Danish player said: “I felt I needed a change and to play a bigger football role. When I spoke to David Moyes and others at the club involved in the transfer, I heard about the whole project and I was very intrigued. Coming here just makes that feeling even stronger.
“Also, my past experience of playing against Everton: the whole atmosphere, the fans, is something I really look forward to experience as an Everton player. It's a big, big honour for me."
Christian Norgaard was never going to have a huge role at Arsenal
Even though he was really good whenever he did play for the club, Nørgaard never really got going because the players he was competing with were always fit.
Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice were available for most of the season, and even when Zubimendi was benched, Myles Lewis-Skelly was the player who was brought on instead. Nørgaard was always the safety option.
Unfortunately for the Danish international, even though he is still a pretty good and experienced Premier League player, it just was not a move that Arsenal benefited from all that much.
The same can be said for Nørgaard, who, although he won the Premier League and is now a champion in England - and is basically immortalised as such - did not play as much as he would have wanted.
He only joined from Brentford a season ago, and even though he is a very tidy player who loves to sit back, defend, and be a selfless teammate, he just was not able to break into that Arsenal squad.
It is a pretty unfortunate situation for Nørgaard, but now it becomes much better for him because he gets to play regular football for Everton.
Those 16 appearances still showed that the 32-year-old provides a lot of experience to David Moyes’s midfield, and he will hope for a much bigger role than what he had at Arsenal.
