Christos Tzolis just proved he can start replicating Leandro Trossard's best form at Arsenal

Christos Tzolis has enjoyed a largely positive start to his Arsenal career, although muted performances away at Aston Villa and Brighton have fans questioning whether the new signing is capable of leading Mikel Arteta's team to the promised land once again.

The Greek arrived from Club Brugge for £34 million in the summer, after enjoying a ridiculously productive campaign in Belgium, which saw him net 22 goals and provide 29 assists across all competitions. His early performances in a red and white shirt have been promising, although his knack for going quiet throughout matches has sparked some concerns.

With Arsenal opting not to invest in another left-winger over the summer, whilst letting Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard go, there is enormous pressure on Tzolis to deliver this term.

Arteta will certainly be encouraged by the 24-year-old's ability to take on this responsibility based on what the player produced for his country on Thursday night.

Christos Tzolis shines for Greece against Serbia

Signing for the Premier League champions in the summer instantly established Tzolis as the talisman for an up and coming Greece side. While the Galanolefki have a number of promising young players, none of them are representing a club of the stature of Arsenal.

The weight of this status seemingly hasn't got to Tzolis, which is a good sign about his ability to take on responsibility at the Emirates.

Named in Greece's starting eleven for their Nations League trip to Serbia, the ex-Norwich City man shone as his country ran out 2-1 winners. With Ivan Jovanovic's side trailing with 16 minutes left to play in Belgrade, Tzolis stepped up and scored the equaliser.

Receiving a pass inside the box, the Arsenal man expertly shifted the ball onto his weaker left foot before shooting back across the goalkeeper, with the ball finding the back of the net off the post. Greece would go on to find a late equaliser through Anastasios Douvikas, whilst Tzolis finished the match with the highest FotMob rating on the pitch.

Tzolis showed he can replicate Trossard

So far at Arsenal, Tzolis has been an excellent secondary playmaker behind Martin Odegaard. He's been outstanding at receiving the ball in wide areas and creating dangerous moments through his inventive passes and cut-backs.

However, what he hasn't shown, which Leandro Trossard always did show at his best, is an ability to get on the end of moves and score goals. Tzolis is yet to score for Arsenal, and this isn't a result of disfortune.

He's taken just four shots across his five matches, with these efforts totalling 0.19 expected goals. This is a pretty meak start from him as a goal threat, and he'll need to improve this aspect of his game if he's to replicate what Trossard did in N5.

Thankfully for Arsenal, his goal and overall performance for Greece demonstrated that he is capable of doing this at a high level. He took six shots against Serbia, which was more than any other player on the pitch.

So far at Arsenal, he's seemingly played within himself a little. Arriving at a big club can be intimidating, and he's often looked to pass to his teammates rather than take the shooting responsibility himself.

Hopefully, his strike for his nation changes his mindset on this front, and we start to to see a real Trossard impersonation post-international break.
