Arsenal superstar Declan Rice gave a fresh perspective about the loss to Paris Saint-Germain in an interview with TNT Sports.
Rice was a good performer in Arsenal's penalty shootout defeat to PSG, and it was clear from the get-go that it was going to be a very difficult game.
Arsenal's gameplan was successful, to an extent, but it was still a really tough watch for all Arsenal fans because of how deep and defensive their team played.
It then became a lottery in the penalty shootout, and Arsenal ended up losing 4-3 in it.
Declan Rice offers fresh perspective on Arsenal's Champions League final loss
Rice's interview immediately after the game showed a lot of maturity, something that was definitely needed for Arsenal's sake in the tough moment.
He compared this loss to the number of times PSG had to endure hardships before they found success in these last two seasons, and it is now clear how much of an importance these sorts of games hold in these players' minds, even if they lose.
He said: "PSG have lost loads over the years and now they are having their time. I think that's going to keep happening with us. We are having our small losses but we are going to go on and keep pushing.”
It is spot on, and Rice's showing his leadership in the best possible way. Arsenal have lost this Champions League final, but it is this sort of mentality that would get them back to where they need to be next season, and hopefully push them over the line in an attempt to win it.
And Arsenal fans must be proud of the team either way. In the last two seasons, Arsenal have lost to PSG twice. Losing to the eventual champion twice is obviously really difficult to endure, but it shows that they only lost to the best team in the competition.
Besides, they have already achieved a lot this season. The final of the Carabao Cup. The final of the Champions League. The Premier League title. They have a lot to be proud of, as this team has shown how special they can be.
It is clear that Arsenal need a bit of an extra push to win the Champions League, but if they are so close, the best thing would be to keep improving, working on the team and come back stronger next season.
