Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice knows exactly what the team needs to do to retain the league title once again, he revealed in a recent interview at the PFA ceremony.
Rice was the catalyst in Arsenal’s first Premier League title in over two decades, and it seems clear to most Premier League watchers that a repeat of that is definitely possible – and maybe not just once, either.
Arsenal know this is the time to really lock in and win titles, with other teams like Liverpool and Manchester City still in development mode. They are still figuring out their team and their ways with a new manager, which makes Mikel Arteta’s side the only team easily the most stable in the entire Premier League.
A lot of their group has also played together for the longest time, which is why it is possible that they keep winning in the future, too.
Rice talked about exactly that – the standards they have for themselves, as well as the mentality they would need to have to repeat what they did as a team last time around.
When asked about what they would need to do to retain the title, he said: “Exact same as what we did last year, play with the same intensity, same desire.

He said: "This year’s all about mentality for me. You want to go back to back, you want to become a great team, not just win it once, you want to go and do it again with all the pressures on, so yeah, bring it on.
“Like what I just said, if we want to become champions again, we’re going to have to do what we did last year and more. Teams don’t want us to win, teams don’t want us to be where we are and we know we’ve got to take that pressure on now and yeah, try and beat everyone that we can.”
Rice has never been more right. They have achieved what every Arsenal group of the last 20 years tried to do, and now. Achieving that, in many cases, takes away the hunger of many groups. They think they have achieved their goal, which makes some players take their foot off the pedal.
That is exactly what Rice is alluding to. He wants the team to make sure they play with the same intensity despite achieving their objective. And he also knows that it was only the objective of last year.
The club’s objective, as a whole, is to win more than just one trophy. The group will not be happy with just one title to show for the years of sacrifices and hard-work. They would want to win new titles. They would want to repeat old titles, and that only comes when you put yourself in the situation where you keep battling for every win with the same intensity as when you were first trying to win the league.
