Eberechi Eze was one of Arsenal's best performers in their 4-1 win at Tottenham as he scored twice to help his side down their arch-rivals in their own backyard.

The midfielder made it five goals in two North London derbies as he added to the hat-trick he netted in the return fixture in November, bringing himself level with Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie and Gareth Bale in the tie.

The Gunners' number 10 had been struggling for consistent form, but his brace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium should have given him the confidence boost he desperately needed.

When Eze scored the first-ever Premier League North London derby hat-trick on 23 November, fans thought he had made his mark and that he would kick on in an Arsenal shirt from there. However, that was far from the case.

A series of starts followed, but a damaging mistake in a dramatic 2-1 defeat away to Aston Villa saw the former Crystal Palace man drop out of the side as he made just two starts in the Premier League between that game and the trip to Tottenham.

The number 10 was handed a number of chances in cup matches, but failed to register any contributions except from providing two assists in a 4-0 win over League One side Wigan Athletic in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

His inconsistency prompted fans to criticise him and question if he is good enough to be playing regularly in a top title-challenging side, but he has now managed to prove them wrong with a return to form and a real confidence boost.

There is no denying that Eze's performances were not up to scratch and he should have been performing better when handed his chance, but inconsistent appearances in and out of the side were never going to help him.

Having not scored since the previous derby, it was incredibly obvious he just needed to find the back of the net to regain the confidence he desperately needed to prove himself as a worthy starter for Mikel Arteta's side.

His double against Spurs should now give him that boost he needs. For some reason, Eze only seems to score against the fellow North Londoners, but he now needs to be looking to have an impact in all other games.

As the title run-in begins, Arsenal are going to need their number 10 to be in top form every single game and Eze should believe he can do that now he is finally back among the goals with his confidence sky high.
