It might seem strange to see Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard wearing the same jersey at the World Cup, but nothing is strange about it in Haaland's eyes. They are countrymen, and Haaland has paid the ultimate respect to Odegaard by calling him 'my captain.'
In a recent Snapchat post, of which Haaland is still very active on the app, Haaland responded to a message by posting a selfie of him and Odegaard, calling Odegaard his captain.
Erling Haland shows Martin Odegaard plenty of respect
Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard have the utmost respect for one another. They may compete on different teams in the Premier League, but it hasn't changed the dynamic between the two.
At this year's World Cup, Norway has stolen the hearts of many. Norway fans are some of the best fans at the World Cup this year, and the team has carried that pride with them onto the pitch, too.
It's easy to see why Haaland and Odegaard get on like a house on fire. Their playing styles are entirely complementary, with Odegaard being an excellent provider and Haaland being one of the scariest goal scorers of all time.
Erling Haaland isn't the most popular name in the Arsenal fandom, but it's for a completely respectable reason. He is, for lack of a better word, too good. It's frightening to play against him, because fans just know he's going to cause trouble.
There is the obvious rivalry dynamic between Haaland and Gabriel, but that side of it is a breath of fresh air and a reminder why English football is great. The reason why Arsenal fans don't like Haaland is that we fear him. Let's call it what it is and respect the man for evoking that emotion within us.
Needless to say, that fear is not there at the World Cup. During the short couple of months where Haaland cannot pose a threat to Arsenal, fans should enjoy him for exactly what he is, an out-and-out goal scorer who views the back of the net like a shark would view blood in water.
In a couple of months' time, Arsenal fans will begin their season where they left off: with a chance to win a trophy. Arsenal will face Man City for the Community Shield in Cardiff. Depending on how far Norway goes in the World Cup, you could imagine both Haaland and Odegaard will want to have a say on the tie, for different teams this time.
