Ethan Nwaneri secures Arsenal exit with loan to Borussia Dortmund

Ethan Nwaneri has secured an exit from Arsenal before the transfer deadline as he has joined Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan.

The Hale End graduate will spend the 2026/27 campaign with the eight-time German champions as he looks to play regular football with that not guaranteed to him in North London.

He was tipped to leave the club this summer, either on a permanent or temporary basis, and Nwaneri has finally got his move away with a loan to Dortmund.

Dortmund have held an interest in Nwaneri throughout the summer and their interest was revived when they made a loan proposal late on Monday night with an agreement being reached on the morning of deadline day.

The youngster subsequently travelled to undergo his medical and complete the formalities ahead of his move being officially confirmed prior to the deadline. Arsenal are set to receive a reported loan fee of £4.3million from Dortmund.

As Nwaneri attracted plenty of suitors during the window, the Gunners made the decision to prioritise a temporary departure rather than a permanent exit for their young star. There was an awareness at the club that he needed to be playing regularly at this stage in his career with an accepteance that wasn't entirely possible in North London this season.

The Signal Iduna Park is set to be the 19-year-old's home for the next year and it's a deal that benefits all parties. Arsenal have offloaded a player who likely wouldn't have featured much while Dortmund have received one of England's best talents, who is eager to be given regular game time.

Die Schwarzgelben have excelled at developing English prospects in recent years and they will be hoping to repeat that with Nwaneri. Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho made themselves household names during their time at Dortmund while Jamie Gittens and Jobe Bellingham have also impressed in Germany.

Mikel Arteta will be hoping this loan can be beneficial for Nwaneri after his temporary move to Marseille for the second half of last season proved to be underwhelming. He scored twice in just 11 appearances for the French side.

Nwaneri should look to take this chance to follow in the footsteps of fellow English talents and prove his potential while at Dortmund. It's the perfect opportunity for him to show his worth ahead of returning to Arsenal next summer, and if he can do that, he should be able to break back into the squad in a years time.
