Former Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar, who left the club in November 2024 to eventually join Nottingham Forest, is now leaving his new job just nine months after joining.
Gaspar was in a well-established role at Arsenal as a sporting director, but he left the club for new challenges, which led him to another club in the Premier League, Nottingham Forest.
At the time, Nottingham Forest were doing well. Really well, in fact, as they finished in Europa League spot, which marked their return to European action for the first time in years.
Arsenal, soon after, announced Andrea Berta as Edu's successor, who has now come in and helped Arsenal take the next step towards winning titles.
Even more proof that the grass is not always greener after leaving Arsenal
Gaspar, who helped reshape the squad alongside Mikel Arteta for a number of years, has now left Forest because of bad relationships with the ownership.
Evangelos Marinakis, who is the owner of the club, will now have to look for another sporting director to replace Gaspar at a really bad time for Forest, as they are now battling relegation, just months on from the illustrious season that made them clinch a Europa League berth.
Gaspar only left the club to get into an interesting job at Forest, where there was reportedly a bit more involvement for him. This was notably a bigger role than the one he had at Arsenal, and he appeared to have a lot more involvement in improving the squad for the season.
However, with Forest down in relegation spots, coupled with the sackings of two managers, it is fair to say that Gaspar, despite helping Forest spend money to reinforce the squad over the summer, has not had the best of times there.
It is obviously not ideal for Gaspar. He left the club just hoping for a new challenge, and not only has it not worked out well for him at Forest, Berta has also done a pretty good job since Gaspar's departure from Arsenal.
Looking at Arsenal's title aspirations and how close they are to winning trophies this season must make Gaspar think about his departure from the club. Obviously, deep inside, he would be happy and proud of Arsenal's football and their positions in multiple competitions this season.
After all, he has helped create this team in the last few years, and even if Arsenal see success from this season, his role in the entire process will never go unnoticed.
