Fábio Vieria has brought an end to his uneventful Arsenal career as his permanent move to Hamburg has been confirmed.
The former Portugal youth international joins the Bundesliga side after spending four years in North London with the Gunners, but failing to make a notable impact during his time with the club.
His departure comes among a number of expected exits before the window's closure later today and it signals the end of arguably one of Arsenal's most failed transfers in recent times.
Fabio Vieira joins Hamburg from Arsenal
Vieira has completed his permanent transfer to Bundesliga side Hamburg for a reported fee in the region of £7.7million.
His new side reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign him on 30 August, bringing him back to the Volksparkstadion, before the player travelled to Germany to complete formalities and undergo a medical ahead of the move being made official.
He spent last season on loan with Die Rothosen, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 31 appearances across all competitions as they secured their Bundesliga status following a return the previous year, ending an eight-year absence.
Vieira joined the Gunners from boyhood club Porto for a reported fee of just under £30m in 2022 and came to North London having shown plenty of promise in his home nation, but his impact was minimal to say the least.
Relying mostly on appearances in the cup competitions and off the bench, he made 33 appearances, scored two goals and provided six assists in his debut season as his side finished second in the league.
He remained in Mikel Arteta's plans for the 2023/24 campaign, but an injury saw him miss a lot of the action as he played just 16 times, scoring once and assisting four.
The decision was made to loan Vieira out in the 2024/25 season, which saw him return to Porto on a temporary move before spending last term with Hamburg, where he has now returned to.
Vieira always showed glimpses of his potential during his time with Arsenal, but the reality is that his spell in North London was uneventful. Having splashed almost £30m on him out of nowhere, the Gunners did not receive any payback for the money they parted with and moving him on to Hamburg seems the best decision.
The club have lost money on him, but like Gabriel Jesus, he is another player who Arsenal, and their supporters, will be glad to have got off the wage bill.
