Arsenal are likely to strengthen their midfield in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Arsenal have spent a lot of money on their squad in the last few years to be able to turn it into a potential title-winning team, and fans are absolutely buzzing with the results.

They have not won anything yet, but everyone associated with this team knows just how close they are to doing it.

They are in the final of the Carabao Cup, top of the Premier League, advancing well in the FA Cup and topped the league phase of the Champions League.

Things can still go wrong, but fans must be happy with how they are at the moment, and the prospect of winning titles is surely on the horizon.

The season is not even over and yet, there is already talk of what Arsenal will do in the summer. Having heavily invested in attack this summer with the signing of Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, and (indirectly) Eberechi Eze, who is an attacking-minded midfielder, the board's attention will now turn to signing a midfielder or two.

Fabrizio Romano, on his YouTube channel, said: “One thing that I can guarantee is that Arsenal will eventually work on midfielders in the summer."

It is going to be interesting to see what kind of players they go for. It is certain that it will not be an attacking-minded midfielder. Eze and Martin Odegaard cover that position extensively well, and there is also the case of Max Dowman and a returning Ethan Nwaneri, so, it is fair to say that Arsenal will be good in that position.

Having cover for Declan Rice and another superstar midfielder behind him could be a shout. Even though Arsenal only signed Martin Zubimendi over the summer, there is still a case for him to have some competition next to another really good player, who can also play in an advanced position.

That is the only midfield profile that makes sense. If Arsenal are in for signing a midfielder that is more focused on attack, then it will be a weird signing because of how much depth they either already have, or will have from next season.

The only other position Arsenal fans could be looking at an upgrade for would be a left-winger, even though Leandro Trossard has had a very good season. As good as he has been, if there is one position that sorely lacks a superstar who is reliable at all times, it is probably the left winger spot.

It remains to be seen what comes of these reports, and how much Arsenal would be willing to spend on these players next time around.
