Arsenal and Mikel Arteta are preparing for a tough trip to Brighton this weekend, as they look to keep their perfect start to the season going. The Gunners come off a 4-2 win against Ipswich in the Carabao Cup, and will now be focused on the Premier League again.
Arteta's side currently sits at the top of the league, on 12 points after four games, and they have only conceded one goal; They're in pole position to repeat their title-winning season from last year and make it two in a row.
The Arsenal manager has built a superteam, so his future is a priority, and it's very much a topic of discussion now. Arteta's contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and he is currently in talks with the club over a new deal.
His last contract extension, which came in 2024, he signed in the Autumn international break, so now seems the perfect time for the Gunners to secure Arteta's long-term future. In his pre-match press conference, the Arsenal boss was asked about the likelihood of a new deal soon, and his answer was very telling.
He said: "I think we are all very much aligned; whenever the time is right, we'll get that done. There is nothing to be concerned about. I don't know if the timing will be the same or different; I think we both have the same ambition and the same will, so whenever we have time, we'll get that resolved."
Arsenal eyeing several contract extensions
Ensuring that Arteta is secured for the future always has to be the priority for the Gunners, as the Arsenal boss has delivered nothing but success. However, there are several key players that could be in line for contract extensions too, and the Gunners will be working to secure them.
Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber's contracts are all set to expire at the end of next season, three names that the Gunners won't want to risk losing. Whilst it seems unlikely that any of the three will end up leaving the Emirates, it still has to be a priority for the Gunners to get the deals wrapped up as soon as possible.
There is an option for a further year on Rice's deal, so his extension is less of a priority, but it is understood that the Gunners are already in talks with him they're also in talks with Timber.
However, Arteta's deal is the real priority, not just because it expires sooner, but also because if he goes then this era of Arsenal success could come crumbling down, so it can't be risked.
