Oleksandr Zinchenko looks set to be departing Arsenal for another loan move - this time to Dutch giants Ajax.
The Ukrainian was on loan at Nottingham Forest throughout the first half of the campaign, but struggled for game time in the East Midlands and now the Gunners have sanctioned another loan move for the left-back.
The 29-year-old has made only 10 appearances for the City Ground club in all competitions, with only half of those being in the Premier League.
He looks set to join Ajax on a six-month loan deal, with the Amsterdam side trailing runaway leaders PSV Eindhoven by 22 points, but are in a huge battle for the Champions League spots.
Zinchenko be linking up with a familiar face in the Dutch capital
Ajax are no strangers to shopping for ex-Arsenal full-backs in the last couple of months, having also brought in Takehiro Tomiyasu recently.
The Japanese international mutually agreed to leave the Emirates due to a lack of fitness and game time, although he always put in a solid shift when called upon.
Those problems don’t seem to have alluded him yet though, as he’s still yet to make an appearance for Fred Grim’s side - although it will certainly be ideal for Zinchenko to at least have one familiar face as he hopes to resurrect his own season.
Zinchenko’s Arsenal career was not great
The left-back arrived from Manchester City in the summer of 2022 along with Gabriel Jesus as signings that felt as if they would help push Arsenal closer to being title challengers.
And that is exactly what they have done, even if they both have had less impact on the side than they’d have liked.
The Ukrainian international captain made 33 appearances in all competitions in his first season (scoring once), whilst finding the back of the net the same amount in 35 games in all competitions the season after.
Playing time was much more limited over the last year or so, following the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Jurrien Timber’s comeback from his ACL injury.
He did still make 23 appearances last season, but only 15 of those were in the Premier League, before his ill-fated Forest loan spell this campaign.
Zinchenko also has a chance at playing in the World Cup next summer, as Ukraine are in the semi-finals of the qualification play-offs, and he’ll certainly need regular game time to ensure he is ready and raring to go should his nation be in the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer.
