Forgotten Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares could make Arsenal £7.5m (€9m) in transfer fees, after his Lazio loan spell comes to an end.

Nuno Tavares, haven't heard that name in a while. Well, the left-back who went down like a lead balloon at the Emirates Stadium has finally had his long-term future resolved.

Signed by Arsenal in 2021, Tavares has never really looked at home. In fact, he was sent out on three different loan spells since being signed by Mikel Arteta. Arteta is an easy book to read, and it's clear that he doesn't see Tavares in his long-term plans.

Nuno Tavares could now hand Arsenal a timely financial boost, though.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal will receive around £7.5m (€9m) in fees from Lazio, as part of their loan with an obligation to buy Nuno Tavares.

What's more, there's a rumoured 40% sell-on clause which could benefit Arsenal in the future.

Despite hardly playing well for Arsenal, fans cannot help but feeling like this is a low amount to receive for a player of Tavares's ability. Sure, he never showed that ability at Arsenal, but he did at Lazio. Now, the Italian team is essentially laughing.

Of course, this fixed fee was already agreed upon when Nuno Tavares signed for Lazio on loan. From a fan perspective, it was one of those "secure now, pay later" jobs which only really benefit the purchasing team.

As far as how fans will react to Nuno Tavares, there'll be no bad blood. Nuno Tavares never did anything to actively harm his North London reputation. The issue is only that he didn't do much to cement his name into the folklore either.

So, he won't be mourned. However, fans wish Nuno Tavares the very best in his next adventure. No matter which way you look at it, it's £7.5m that could be the difference between signing a top target versus missing out on them.
