Kieran Tierney finally left Arsenal in the summer transfer window to rejoin his boyhood club, Celtic. It was an anticipated move which benefited all parties, but he could now be joined by another former Arsenal player, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The former Arsenal midfielder-slash-winger has been without a club ever since leaving Beşiktaş in the summer of 2025. He's been training with Arsenal, and some fans have even entertained the idea of making another appearance for the Gunners soon, but it won't turn out that way.

Instead, Oxlade-Chamberlain is preparing for a move to Celtic. The Hoops, currently coached by long-time legend of the sport Martin O'Neill, are eager to get The Ox back playing as soon as possible.

In fact, he could arrive in Glasgow for a medical as soon as today.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the right player at the wrong time for Arsenal

Most Arsenal fans will remember Oxlade-Chamberlain positively. He was a great player for the Gunners, playing between the years 2011–2017.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was one of the most promising players at Arsenal during the final chapter of Arsene Wenger's legendary reign. The Ox showed many flashes of brilliance, and he was one of the most rapid forwards in the Premier League during his time.

Admittedly, though, the Ox did bring with him a fair share of frustrations. He couldn't quite settle on his strongest position, and he flip-flopped between being a midfielder and a winger. His versatility didn't benefit Arsenal; it hindered them.

Then, obviously, there was his consistently inconsistent availability. At times, it felt like he was spending more time on the treatment table than on the pitch. However, it would be unfair to single him out for his poor injury record, since this was a fate suffered by literally every Arsenal player of his time.

Above all else, though, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is mostly remembered for being Arsenal's record sale. Yes, he was sold in 2017, but he remains Arsenal's biggest sale almost a decade later. The fee of £35 million feels rather meager now, but it's a further example that Arsenal is not the best selling club.

All in all, there is no bad blood between Arsenal fans and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. It'll be nice to see him back playing for a big British club. For obvious reasons, it wasn't the most enjoyable watching him in a dominant Liverpool side, so joining Celtic and playing alongside Kieran Tierney is much more appealing for Arsenal fans.
