Arsenal fans would have been disappointed that their side again squandered the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League last weekend. They endured a 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest after Manchester City were surprisingly beaten by Manchester United.
The mood in the Arsenal camp appears to be one of frustration after footage of Declan Rice arguing with assistant coach Albert Stuivenberg emerged. That was during the Gunners' win over Chelsea last week, and Rice again was seen shouting expletives after the draw with Forest.
Despite this, Gabriel Jesus has put on an optimistic front in a press conference ahead of Arsenal's Champions League tie with Inter Milan tonight. Jesus said, "My first target is to be healthy until the end of the season. My wish is to stay at Arsenal… I want to extend my contract, I want to stay and win trophies with Arsenal because I came here with a purpose."
Will Gabriel Jesus' wishes become fulfilled?
Jesus has struggled with injuries recently; a cruciate ligament tear meant he missed the second half of last season and the start of this campaign. This left the Gunners light in attack. Kai Havertz has also missed games through injury, and Mikel Merino has had to fill in up front. Viktor Gyokeres was brought in last summer, but he has yet to discover the form he showed at Sporting CP.
The Gunners are in a great position to end this season with silverware, as they are still leading the Premier League by seven points. They are also top of the Champions League, but that tournament become as lottery when it comes to the knockout stages.
Arsenal have won a foot in the EFL Cup final after beating Chelsea 3-2 in the first leg of their semi-final. Mikel Arteta's side also has a favorable draw in the FA Cup as they face Wigan Athletic of League One next.
When it comes to Jesus potentially signing a new contract with the Gunners, this may be unlikely. With his injury record, he has played just 11 games this season, where he has scored just once and made just one assist.
Jesus was linked with moves back to Brazil and to the Saudi Pro League. More recently, he appears to be a target for AC Milan. His contract with Arsenal expires in 2027, and Jesus will be turning 30 that same year. It is good that Jesus has such a positive outlook, but a player's career rarely goes the way that it is expected.
