Harry Kane became the fifth English player to win the Ballon d'Or, and the first since Michael Owen in 2001, as he was awarded football's most prestigious individual prize on Monday night.

The Bayern Munich striker was recognised for a stellar season with Bayern Munich that saw him score 61 goals and provide seven assists in 51 appearances across all competitions on the way to winning the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal.

He also starred for the Three Lions, netting 12 times in 14 matches, and captaining his nation to the semi-finals of the World Cup, ultimately finishing third in their best result since their 1966 triumph.

While it was an award he very clearly deserved, some Gunners fans will still be reduced to fear by the mere mention of Kane's name, given the sensational record he boasts against his former North London rivals.

How Ballon d'Or winner Harry Kane has fared against Arsenal in his career

Before his departure to Bayern in 2023, Arsenal fans usually feared the sight of Kane leading Tottenham's attack in North London derby meetings as he never seemed to relent in the much anticipated clash.

Throughout his career, he has played 23 matches against the Gunners, scoring 16 goals and providing three assists, and has secured eight wins when playing his former rivals.

Kane's goalscoring exploits began when he netted a brace in a 2-1 win at White Hart Lane during the 2014/15 season, and he eventually went on to become the all-time scorer in the North London derby with 14 goals to his name, surpassing Emmanuel Adebayor's long-standing record.

His top performances for Spurs coincided with a period that saw his side dominate Arsenal in the Premier League, regularly finishing above their rivals to keep the traditional St Totteringham's Day at bay until the 2022/23 season, when the Gunners secured a second-place finish, six places above their foes.

He made his final appearance for Tottenham against Arsenal in January 2023 and was on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline, as Mikel Arteta managed a first triumph at his side's rivals' sparkling new stadium. That came just months after he found the net in a 3-1 defeat at the Emirates.

Kane moved to Bayern at the end of the 2022/23 campaign and the Gunners thought they had finally got rid of the striker who had haunted them so much, but they have met him in three of the four seasons since he made the switch to Germany.

He netted in a 2-2 quarter-final first leg draw in North London in April 2024 before going goalless in a 1-0 win the following week. The 2024/25 saw Kane kept apart from his old rivals before Bayern were handed a trip to the Emirates in the 2025/26 league phase.

The striker failed to score in that return to the English capital as Arsenal ran out 3-1 victors in a dominant night in front of their faithful.

Kane's most recent meeting with the Gunners came just a week ago when the Gunners travelled to Bavaria for another league phase meeting. He set up Alphonso Davies' equaliser with a sensational pass before scoring from the penalty spot in an eventual 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena.

It's no secret that Kane has been a very sharp thorn in Arsenal's side over the years and despite his move away from the Premier League, he continues to be just that in Bayern's regular European meetings with the Gunners.

While the North London faithful will likely always shudder at the mention of Kane's name, no one can deny that his Ballon d'Or win was fully deserved as he enjoyed an incredible campaign for both club and country.
