How to get to the Emirates Stadium: Nearest train stations, tube stops, bus routes

It is now 20 years since Arsenal waved goodbye to Highbury, their home since 1913, and opened Emirates Stadium. Located in the heart of North London in Holloway, the Emirates is one of the most well connected stadiums by public transport anywhere in England. Nearest London Underground stations

Before a game, most supporters will use one of Arsenal, Finsbury Park or Highbury & Islington station to get to the stadium. After matches however, crowd control measures are in place at all three so, depending on the kick off time, supporters may have to wait upwards of 45 minutes, sometimes even an hour, to queue and get into the station. Thus, if physically able to do so, and not wanting to queue, walking a bit further to a station such as Angel might be a better bet.

Which stations are closed on Arsenal matchdays?

Both Drayton Park station (Great Northern) and Holloway Road (Picadilly line) are closed on Arsenal matchdays. This is due to safety concerns as a result of narrow platforms, as well as the fact that both lines are served by other nearby stations.

 Nearest National Rail and Overground stations

Similar to the underground section, there are numerous stations within a mile or two of Emirates Stadium. Finsbury Park and Highbury & Islington are exceedingly busy after full time. Thus, if you require London Overground, we recommend heading to Canonbury or Caledonian Road & Barnsbuy. If you need Great Northern Rail, it's probably worth walking the extra 12 minutes to Essex Road.

Bus routes serving Emirates Stadium

There are dozens of TFL London Buses that run near Emirates Stadium, so we've tried to pick out some of the most useful.

As is the case with tubes and trains, buses will be increasingly busy on a matchday. They can take some time to get away from the surrounding area but, due to plentiful bus lanes, will get you away from the stadium in decent time.

Do not attempt to drive to Emirates Stadium

Islington has become notorious as being one of the least-accessible London boroughs by road. The implementation of LTN (Low Traffic Neighbourhood) cameras shuts off back roads, forcing all motorists onto main roads, which has just made them increasingly congested.

Islington council also has matchday parking restrictions in place, meaning street parking on most roads near Emirates Stadium is not permitted. Thus, we strongly advice against driving to a match.

 Best ways to reach the stadium from major transport hubs

If you're travelling to an Arsenal match from outside of London, either from elsewhere in England or perhaps even internationally, here is how to get to Emirates Stadium from various major transport hubs.

International train stations

• King's Cross St Pancras: You can either get the Victoria Line to Highbury & Islington or the Piccadilly Line to Arsenal. Alternatively, you could walk, as it is only 2 miles, taking around 45 minutes.

• Euston: Similar to King's Cross, the Victoria Line will take you to either Highbury & Islington or Finsbury Park. It is a slightly longer walk to Emirates Stadium, taking just under an hour.

• Stratford International: Take the London Overground Mildmay line to Highbury & Islington.

• Paddington: Take the Circle or Hammersmith & City Line to King's Cross and then change onto the Victoria Line, taking you to Highbury & Islington or Finsbury Park.

• Waterloo: Take the Jubilee Line to Green Park and then get the Victoria Line to Highbury & Islington. Alternatively, you can catch the Bakerloo Line to Oxford Circus and then the Victoria Line to Highbury & Islington.

• Victoria: This is a simple one! Victoria Line straight to Highbury & Islington which takes just 12 minutes.

• Liverpool Street: Walk across the road to Moorgate station and take the Great Northern Line to Higbury & Islington or Finsbury Park.

• London Bridge: Either take Thameslink to Finsbury Park or, alternatively, take the 21 or 43 bus.

International airports

• Heathrow: Either take the Elizabeth Line to Liverpool Street and change onto the Great Northern Line from Moorgate to Finsbury Park. Alternatively, the Piccadilly Line goes directly to Arsenal, but this takes just over an hour.

• Gatwick: Thameslink straight to King's Cross St Pancras or Finsbury Park.

• Luton: Thameslink to King's Cross St Pancras and then the Victoria Line to Highbury & Islington.

• Stanstead: Take the Stanstead Express to Tottenham Hale and change onto the Victoria Line to Highbury & Islington.

• London City Airport: Take the DLR to Stratford and then the London Overground Mildmay Line to Highbury & Islington.

• Southend Airport: Great Anglia railway to London Liverpool Street and then Great Northern railway from Moorgate to Finsbury Park.
