After an emphatic victory to begin their World Cup campaign, we're about to learn just how strong Germany really are. On Sunday, die Mannschaft claimed their second-biggest World Cup victory of all-time, demolishing debutants Curaçao 7-1 in Houston. Felix Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathanial Brown and Deniz Undav all scored, while Arsenal's Kai Havertz netted twice.
However, in their remaining two group games, we'll find out if Julian Nagelsmann's team really are capable of going all the way. On Saturday night in Toronto, they'll take on the other side in Group E with three points on the board Côte d'Ivoire, after les Éléphants beat Ecuador 1-0 in their opener.
These two nations have only ever met once before. It was a 2-2 friendly draw in Gelsenkirchen back in 2009, with future Arsenal player Łukasz Podolski scoring twice, while at the time current Gunner Emmanuel Eboué on target for the visitors. As they meet again in Ontario, will there be a winner?

Germany vs Ivory Coast match preview
As already outlined, this World Cup clash really is intriguing as it could go either-way. Germany are of course four-times world champions, featuring in a record eight World Cup finals, but haven't been quite so good of late. Die Nationalelf have crashed out in the group stages at the last two World Cups, despite having not done so since 1938 beforehand. While their 7-1 demolition of Curaçao means they'll avoid a repeat of that, Julian Nagelsmann's team are expected to make a deep run.
If die Mannschaft are going to hang around in North America for a long time, expect Kai Havertz to be a key figure. He converted a penalty against Ghana in March, before heading home a second minute opener during Germany's final warm-up friendly against USA in Chicago. His brace last weekend takes his tally to 24 for his country, the highest scorer in the squad, now on target at four successive major tournaments. Thus, he will continue to be Nagelsmann's first-choice centre-forward, chosen over Nick Woltemade and Deniz Undav, so can he add to his tally in Toronto?
We've focussed a lot on Germany, but what about Côte d'Ivoire? They will truly believe they can win this game, and rightly so. Their opener could have gone either-way against Ecuador, but it was les Éléphants who picked up three precious points in Philly, thanks to Amad's stoppage time strike.
Thus, with Curaçao to come on Thursday, Ivory Coast are well-placed to reach the World Cup knockout stages for the very first time. In terms of Arsenal connections, Nicolas Pépé will begin the afternoon on the bench, very much second fiddle to Yan Diomande, but there's no shame in that. In summary, this World Cup game is well worth your time.
Prediction: Germany 2-2 Ivory Coast
