Ian Wright has made possibly the boldest claim to date about this Arsenal team amid their challenge to win both the Premier League and Champions League.

The Gunners secured a dramatic 1-0 win at West Ham on Sunday afternoon, meaning they are now just two wins away from winning their first title in 22 years before taking on Paris Saint-Germain in just their second ever Champions League final in May.

If Mikel Arteta's side do get over the line in both competitions, the conversation certainly has to be had, but Wright isn't afraid to make the claim that this Arsenal team would surpass the Invincibles as the greatest side in the club's history.

Ian Wright believes this Arsenal team will surpass Invincibles with double

Quizzed by David Jones, Jamie Redknapp and Roy Keane on Sky Sports following Arsenal's win over West Ham, Wright said: "Yeah, simply because this team have got the capability of if they can win it, they'll be invincible in the Champions League.

"If they can win that, and win the Premier League, then the Invincibles team, as great as they were with their individuals, this team will surpass them with what they've done because they'll have done something that that team hasn't done, and they've got to get a lot of credit for that with what they've been through, and the journey to get to here with the manager.

"Obviously playing a very good PSG side, it's going to be a real battle of styles, but they have got themselves there and they deserve to be there. They deserve to be where they are now because they've gone through it like I say for the three years.

"They've built this squad, they've got the players on the bench to help to come on and finish like Mikel says, and they've done it up to this point. So if they can finish it off, which I'm praying they can, of course they have to go down as the best team in Arsenal's history."

This is a discussion that fans will be preparing to have if the Gunners do secure an historic double and there is a good argument to make, but there is no denying Wright's claim is certainly bold.

The Invincibles did something that had never been done in the history of the Premier League and hasn't been replicated since. Going an entire season unbeaten, regardless of 12 draws, is not an easy feat, and there's a strong argument to make that it could never actually happen again.

However, as Wright states, this season's potential achievement should stand above it. Delivering the club's first league title in over 20 years and winning the Champions League for the first ever time, doing so unbeaten, would easily be the greatest season Arsenal have ever had.

Wright's claim is bold, but it's certainly valid. The Gunners now just have to go and do the business with three more massive games to play.
