It is not common practice, particularly on an Arsenal fan blog, to praise anyone with the surname Kroenke. For many years, Stan Kroenke was known as the billionaire villain at Arsenal, but we must give credit where credit is due. His son, Josh Kroenke, trusted Mikel Arteta enough to build this empire, and that's exactly what he's done.
Josh Kroenke has taken a much more proactive role at Arsenal over the last few years. This season, he has been seen at some key games across different competitions. He was even in attendance for Arsenal's most recent game against Burnley, just one day before the Gunners won the Premier League title.
Josh Kroenke puts his face out there at Arsenal more often than his father, Stan, does. Josh Kroenke was even featured in the All or Nothing documentary that aired on Amazon Prime early in Mikel Arteta's time at Arsenal.
Josh Kroenke might have quietly won Arsenal the Premier League
Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal were once bottom (yes, rock bottom) of the Premier League. It would have been easy for Josh Kroenke to overreact and throw in the towel for Arteta, but he didn't. Instead, Josh took an active role in attending an Arsenal training session and opening dialogue with Arteta.
"We need some stability," Kroenke said to Arteta when Arsenal were bottom of the Premier League table. "I was annoyed that there were so many people trying to fracture the group."
To which, Arteta replied "You have experienced that a lot."
Then, Kroenke laughed, and replied, "The only guys you can trust are the ones in the room with you. That's all I know."
"That word [Trust] is very rare to find," replied Arteta.
Kroenke concluded the conversation by saying "Very much, but onward we go."
And onward Arsenal went. Kroenke chose in that moment to trust Arteta, and Arteta repaid his trust in the best possible way.
Mikel Arteta set Arsenal's culture up to win
Looking ahead, there is not a single doubt in any Arsenal fan's mind that Mikel Arteta is the right guy for Arsenal. He is one of the best coaches in the world right now, and he's still young enough to confidently say that he's only just getting started.
The early Kroenke days were a circus for all the wrong reasons. However, this family knows what it takes to be a successful sports club.
- Arsenal - Premier League in 2026
- Colorado Avalanche - Stanley Cup in 2001, 2022
- Colorado Rapids - MLS Cup in 2010
- Denver Nuggets - NBA Championship in 2023
- Saint Louis Rams/LA Rams - Super Bowl in 2000, 2022
Arsenal fans didn't do anything wrong by protesting to get the Kroenkes out of the club. However, in hindsight, we can connect the dots and recognise that actually, Josh Kroenke has had Arsenal's best interest at heart for some time now.
That moment where he trusted what he felt with Arteta is a major storyline in Arsenal winning the Premier League this season.
