It was announced on Monday afternoon that Jurriën Timber is set to miss the entirety of the World Cup with a groin injury.

That is such unfortunate news for a really good player who would have been eager to showcase his talents for his country on the biggest stage.

Many people are obviously upset, but no one is feeling it more than Timber at the moment, who knew he would have been a big part of that team had he been available. However, setbacks happen in football, they are a big part of the sport.

Jurrien Timber's World Cup blow has one overlooked silver lining

People always look for silver linings. They always look for positives in a really bad situation, and although it is difficult for fans to find one here, there is one thing that could keep Arsenal fans at least a little optimistic going forward.

Obviously, Timber would rather play at the World Cup than miss it. There is no denying that. But he has played so much football this season, especially because of Ben White's injury, which forced him to take on even more minutes when he probably could have benefited from some rest.

Now that he is missing the World Cup, it is worth considering whether all that time off between now and next season could actually become a silver lining for Timber.

No player wants to miss the chance to represent their national team, but if you have played as many minutes as Timber has, and have dealt with a difficult injury record in the past, perhaps it would not be the worst thing in the world to have a bit more rest in the summer and allow your body to fully heal.

That could be more beneficial than going into a major tournament and potentially aggravating the injury.

Obviously, the silver lining is very slim in this specific situation, but it is worth thinking about. Timber will get opportunities in the future. He is still very young and will almost certainly get the chance to play in another World Cup.

He will also undoubtedly feature in many domestic cup finals and Champions League finals during his Arsenal career. There is no doubt about that.

But considering how much he played throughout the season, perhaps an extended period of rest to fully recover and prepare for next season would do him more good than many people realise. It may even do him more good than he himself realises at this moment.

Every difficult situation has some sort of silver lining, and even though it is very small in this case, it is something that can keep Timber going until the new season begins and he is able to play football again.
