Can Arsenal conclude the campaign with a win on Merseyside? On Wednesday night, the Gunners left it late, but just about beat Everton 1-0 at home, with Stina Blackstenius scoring the game's only goal deep into stoppage time. This means Renée Slegers' side will conclude the campaign unbeaten at the Emirates, having lost only one WSL match all season.

So, while Arsenal will not be crowned champions for the first time since 2019, four points behind Manchester City ahead of the final day, they do still have something to play for. That mid-week win propelled the Gunners up to second, two points clear of Chelsea. The WSL runners-up will join Man City in next season's Champions League league phase, while third place will face a dreaded two-legged qualifier in the summer, one that everyone would rather avoid.

Given that Arsenal's goal difference is 14 superior to Chelsea's, they realistically only need a draw at Anfield to rubber stamp second place. Back in December, it took another last gasp goal from Blackstenius to beat Liverpool 2-1 in North London, so Slegers' side won't take anything for granted.

As for Liverpool, they finished as high as fourth just two seasons ago, before coming seventh last time round. Well, the Reds' downward trajectory has continued, currently 11th, only safe from relegation because bottom side Leicester have been generally hopeless. Gareth Taylor's team did enjoy a period in which they only lost two of nine WSL matches not so long ago, but come into this one following back-to-back 1-0 defeats, beaten by West Ham and then Manchester City.

Last weekend, Liverpool squandered the chance to reach a first FA Cup final in 30 years. Goals from Denise O'Sullivan and then Beata Olsson saw them race into a 2-0 lead against Brighton, only for the Seagulls to fight back, snatching a 3-2 victory with the last kick of the game in St Helens. Thus, ahead of this final day of the season fixture at Anfield, Liverpool's players will be understandably crestfallen and deflated, hence why Arsenal are firm favourites to pick up three points.

Liverpool team news

Cornelia Kapocs returned after injury last weekend against Brighton, with Kirsty Maclean also coming into midfield. This duo replaced Aurélie Csillag and Mia Enderby respectively, so it will be interesting to see if Gareth Taylor tinkers here. Beata Olsson is their top-scorer in the WSL this season with six.

Predicted Liverpool lineup vs Arsenal: Falk; Shimizu, Clark, Fisk, Bernabé; Maclean, Nagano, O'Sullivan, Kapocs, Holland; Olsson.

Arsenal team news

Numerous bona fide Arsenal legends will leave this summer. Thus, this will be a final appearance in the club colours for Katie McCabe, Victoria Pelova, Beth Mead and Laia Codina, while the also departing goalkeeper duo Manuela Zinsberger and Naomi Williams are unlikely to feature.

Meantime, Smilla Holmberg's impressive recent form could earn her a start at right-back, with Lotte Wubben-Moy keeping her place in the middle, given Leah Williamson's injury issues. Olivia Smith will return to Anfield for the first time since departing for £1 million a year ago, with Stina Blackstenius and Alessia Russo looking to add to their ten and 11 WSL goals respectively.

Predicted Arsenal lineup vs Liverpool: Borde; Holmberg, Codina, Wubben-Moy, McCabe; Pelova, Caldentey; Smith, Maanum, Blackstenius, Russo.

Liverpool vs Arsenal score prediction

We are fully expecting Arsenal to swat a pretty average Liverpool team aside at Anfield on Saturday. The Gunners are unbeaten in 16 WSL matches, winning eight of the last nine, scoring 38 goals during this undefeated streak. Renée Slegers' side have scored three or more goals on 13 occasions this season, including at Villa Park a week ago, likely to add to this tally on Merseyside.

Prediction: Liverpool 1-3 Arsenal
