Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard told Sky how much it meant for him to win the league with Arsenal on Sunday, after his team beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Odegaard has been at the club for a while now. He joined in 2021, around the time the process had just begun to take shape, and soon after became the captain of the club when his move from Real Madrid became permanent.
Slowly but surely, things improved with Odegaard and, eventually, he was made the captain of this new generation of Gunners. In a few years' time, Odegaard lifted the Premier League trophy.
It is genuinely crazy how it has only been a few years of squad-building and chemistry building since Arsenal became title contenders in 2022, and yet, people keep bringing the second position trophy as if it wasn't an incredibly young team challenging for the league against one of the best of all time.
Arsenal did really well to compete with some of the best Manchester City sides fans have ever seen, and they deserve their plaudits. It has only been a few years. Many processes take that long, and it is completely normal when you look at the bigger picture.
Martin Ødegaard left no doubt about what winning the Arsenal title means to him
But, if you are Odegaard, who lived through every single game and every single season of being agonizingly close to winning the league, it will make everything feel even sweeter when you finally are able to lift the trophy.
That is what happened, and that is what he said on Sky after winning the league.
He said: "It feels unreal - hard to put it into words, but just so proud, happy and emotional. It's a crazy, crazy feeling. Walking up towards the trophy and just realising everything is a mad feeling.
"I'm just so proud of everyone for the way we did it and everything we've been through, and to finally get over the line just means the world to everyone, so I'm so happy."
“You can't imagine what it's like and we had a great night on Tuesday, together at the training ground. And then today to lift the trophy - this is what I've been dreaming about my whole life, to win the Premier League, and to be at this stage is unbelievable."
It must truly be a wonderful feeling for Arsenal, and especially for Odegaard. Making the choice of leaving a club like Real Madrid is not easy, especially considering how much of a difficult moment Arsenal were in when he actually joined the club.
Obviously, it was a project, but putting so much faith into one when you are a part of one of the most successful teams of all time is not easy, and that is what Odegaard did.
The Norwegian fully deserves this trophy, and hopefully, there are a few more coming his way in the next few years.
