Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres is a Premier League champion. He has now won a league title for three seasons in a row, with two different clubs, which is quite impressive.
With Arsenal, the Premier League title was much more grueling than the battles in Portugal, and the result was much sweeter. Gyokeres had contributed to a title that will now come to the Emirates for the first time in over 20 years.
The title win was the most important thing, easily, but there are things, certain extras that you would want to have after a title win.
Obviously, they are not completely necessary, but they are a nice bonus for the players to have. One of those things is to be able to celebrate the title with the fans in their own stadium.
With Arsenal, it is a bit different because they won the title awaiting Manchester City's results, but also that they have no more home games left for the season. Their last game, against Crystal Palace on Sunday evening, is at Selhurst Park.
Viktor Gyokeres may have already the tone for Arsenal next season
Gyokeres was asked about that, and while he would rather win the league this way than not win it at all, he may have hinted at something Arsenal should aim to do next season.
He said: "The last time I won the league [with Sporting], I think two times I watched another game [from home] and one time on the pitch, and I think there’s different ways to win it.
“As long as you win it, I couldn't care less, but yeah, it's nice to try [to win it on the pitch]. We can maybe try it next season to win it on the pitch.”
Obviously, the biggest objective for any club is to win the league, first and foremost. It does not matter if they end up winning it in another country as long as it is theirs for the taking. It is also worth noting that the trophy parade will happen in and around North London anyway, so in that sense, the players would still be celebrating in front of their fans.
However, it would have been such a surreal experience if, after 20 years, the first time they won the league was in front of their own fans.
We are not just talking limbs. Fans would probably get onto the pitch and celebrate with the players. It would create for one of the best moments in Arsenal's history. Who wouldn't want to sign up for that?
That is something that Gyokeres may have casually hinted at for next season, but it is something that they should definitely focus on. He did not say a single lie there.
