Max Dowman is one of the most exciting young players in a generation, both at Arsenal and the Premier League as a whole. Rarely has a player looked so equipped to handle first team football and hold his own at such a young age, and it's getting harder and harder for the Gunners to keep a lid on the excitement around the youngster.

The 16-year-old is already breaking records, and that's only part of the equation, with the midfielder's play by far the mosty exciting part. On Sunday, Dowman made history by becoming the youngest starter in Premier League history, making it two records in just one week.

The Premier League's five youngest starters

  • Max Dowman (Arsenal): 16 years and 144 days (Started against Crystal Palace, May 2026)
  • Jose Baxter (Everton): 16 years and 191 days (Started against Blackburn Rovers, August 2008)
  • Reece Oxford (West Ham United): 16 years and 236 days (Started against Arsenal, August 2015)
  • Wayne Rooney (Everton): 16 years and 297 days (Started against Tottenham, October 2002)
  • Neil Finn (West Ham United): 17 years and 3 days (Started against Sheffield Wednesday, May 1996)

Becoming the youngest Premier League starter was Dowman's second record of the week, and it capped a superb season for the youngster. The start saw him jump ahead of former Everton youngster Jose Baxter, who has held the record since 2008 - an impressive run.

West Ham's Reece Oxford came close in 2015 when he jumped ahead of Wayne Rooney, who once became the youngest player back in 2002, a record that held until another Everton player did it in 2008 - Baxter.

Neil Finn had the record in 1996, but that was the only appearance he made. Rooney aside, this isn't a particularly glamorous list when you look at what the players went on to do, but that only adds to the obvious in that Dowman now has to build on this impressive start to his career.

The Premier League's five youngest title winners

  • Max Dowman – 16 years, 144 days (Arsenal, 2025-26)
  • Phil Foden – 17 years, 350 days (Manchester City, 2017-18)
  • Rico Lewis – 18 years, 188 days (Manchester City, 2022-23)
  • Brahim Díaz – 18 years, 283 days (Manchester City, 2017-18)
  • Gaël Clichy – 18 years, 294 days (Arsenal, 2003-04)

The first record of the week for Dowman was becoming the youngest-ever title winner, jumping ahead of three Manchester City players in Phil Foden, Rico Lewis and Brahim Diaz.

The fifth player on the list was another Arsenal player in Gaël Clichy, who set the record in 2003, and that record held until 2018, when both Diaz and Foden jumped ahead of him.

It will be interesting to see how long the Dowman record now stands.
