Arsenal's season has been pretty good so far. Top of the Premier League table by seven points, as well as being top of the Champions League, while also advancing well in both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, shows that things are working.

What Mikel Arteta is trying to do is clearly working, and even though they have disappointed in a few games, those moments are few and far in between, so it shows that more often than not, Arsenal get the job done.

What makes it more impressive - and also a little concerning - is that they are doing all of this without their primary striker being in good form.

Viktor Gyokeres was signed for a very huge transfer fee in the summer, and it seemed like Arsenal's goalscoring problems would end with this signing.

Well, fast forward a few months, and Gyokeres is not at the level Arsenal fans thought he would be, at least from a goalscoring sense.

He has done other things well, like attracting defenders towards him, while also using his body to outmuscle defenders consistently. Doing this has indirectly led to more chances for his teammates, but goalscoring is where he has fallen short.

Micah Richards recently discussed how it would be a good idea for Gyokeres to not be in the Arsenal squad for a couple of games, and that it could actually do the player some good.

At first, it sounded like a bad idea, but the more it is said out loud, the more believable and understandable it gets.

He said: “Maybe Viktor needs a couple of games out of the team and to get his confidence back before coming back in for Arsenal.

"There was a moment against Forest where he should have gone through but as a defender you think you can get back because he’s lacking confidence and his touch isn’t going to be right. Even if he went through you’re not fancying him to score at the minute.”

Believe it or not, he has a point.

Gyokeres has been under a lot of pressure. Every passing game, more and more eyes are on his performances, and the expectation for him to give a good performance is higher than it has ever been.

Letting him sit for a couple of games will give him time to get his thoughts together, while evaporating some of the pressure he has been feeling. Rather than forcing things, he would then be able to be himself a bit more than he has been these days.
