Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Ben White after his standout performance in Arsenal's 2-0 win over Brentford, but his side's fans already knew what he acknowledged about the defender.

After being named as the starter at right back, the former England international put on a top display to help his team to another crucial victory that saw them extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Following the match, Arteta highlighted White's attitude and appeared delighted to have seen him back to his best with Gunners fans already clear on his brilliance.

When asked about White winning the man of the match award, Arteta said: "His attitude has been so positive, so good. When given the opportunity, you take it.

"I'm very happy that we have him back in the best version of himself as well. We're going to need him because he's a tremendous player."

The defender has suffered over the past two seasons with inconsistent fitness and frequent injuries meaning he has struggled to keep his place at right back with Jurrien Timber being the strong first choice in the position.

However, he has never let that affect his attitude or his performances as he has never been known to complain about his lack of game time while also always putting in his best when given the chance on the pitch.

He did exactly that against Brentford, helping out in both attack and defence and even assisted Mikel Merino's opening goal after making his trademark run down the right side before sending a cross in for the Spaniard to head in.

After his top performance against the Bees, White may be needed to be a regular starter once again for Arsenal. With William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Cristhian Mosquera all unavailable due to injury, he could be set for a run in the team and that will give him a chance to prove himself as a first-choice option.

If he can continue performing the way he did in Wednesday's win, then there is absolutely no reason he shouldn't remain a starting choice for the Gunners once his fellow defenders have returned from injury, but he will have a tough task in keeping hold of the place.

Regardless, it is great to see his attitude and ability being acknowledged by Arteta as he has proven to be one of his side's most reliable players since first joining.
