Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has claimed that there has been a 'tremendous' reaction to the draw against Wolves on Wednesday.
Arsenal drew 2-2 against Wolves in the last kick of the game, and another gut-wrenching could put the side just two points away from Manchester City, should the Cityzens win the game in hand.
Arsenal then faced a lot of criticism from fans all across the world, as the draw against a relegation-bound team is the polar opposite of what they need from their team at this time.
However, Arteta, in his pre-match presser for Tottenham, said that he is happy with the reaction that this team has shown after the draw, and what he says makes perfect sense in the context of the season.
Mikel Arteta tells Arsenal fans exactly what they need to hear after Wolves draw
He said: "What I’ve seen is a tremendous reaction again and I’m not surprised at all.
“We have a long season. Chapter 27 says, okay, we draw against Wolves in this manner. What I’m very interested in is the next one, it’s what we are made of. Ok, what do we do about this and how we write our own destiny from here and going forward, and that’s it.
“You have to react to that because life moves on, the result has to stay, unfortunate as it was. There is nothing that we can do, what we can do is a lot, it’s what’s going to happen next.”
Arteta is spot on. The draw is the opposite of what the team needs right now, but it is done. It happened in a way no one expected, as well, but it is done. That is the point.
What matters is how this team reacts to this. The result will stay no matter how the team looks at it. It is good that they take it on the chin and move to the next game with a chip on their shoulder, because that is the only thing they can do.
This game against Tottenham feels like the best way to do it, too. Going up against your own rival and actually battling for much more than the three points could motivate this team more than people would expect, and that is exactly what Arsenal need right now.
If they win this game convincingly, it could give them the confidence to go on a similar run to the one fans saw at the start of the season.
That is what Arsenal need right now, and hopefully, Arteta, along with the players themselves, are able to instill that much belief.
