The World Cup is special for many reasons, one of which is giving supporters the chance to watch players and teams they otherwise would not see. For those club-focussed, the tournament also raises excitement about potential transfer targets too.

Well, according to a report by the Times, Arsenal "have begun talks" to sign Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. The Evening Standard believe he is valued at around £70 million by his club LOSC Lille, which would make him the third most-expensive teenager of all-time, behind only Kylian Mbappé, João Félix and Matthijs de Ligt. So, who is Bouaddi, and would he be worth such a price tag?

Well, the 18 yer old impressed all onlookers as Morocco held Brazil to a 1-1 draw at MetLife Stadium on Saturday.

The statistics support the zeitgeist that Bouaddi was all-action against Brazil in East Rutherford. Only Brazilian centre-back duo Marquinhos and Gabriel, a player Gooners know rather well, racked up more touches, while the teenager won nine ground duels, completed the second most dribbles and won four tackles. This is not bad considering it was his competitive international debut.

Having represented France at youth level, his request to switch allegiance was only approved by FIFA as recently as late-May. The teenager then started in all three of the Atlas Lions' pre-tournament friendlies against Burundi in Salé, Madagascar in Rabāṭ and Norway in New Jersey, earning his place in Mohamed Ouahbi's lineup to face the five-time world champions, and more than proving his worth.

So, why were Morocco so delighted to get him on board? Well, despite his young age, he has already racked up 96 senior appearances for Lille, starting 28 Ligue 1 games as well as seven times in the Europa League for les Dogues last season. So, let's analyse his club statistics.

Saturday's performance is New Jersey certainly was not a one-off. Bouaddi was impressive in a wide variety of statistics in Ligue 1 last season, namely tackles, interceptions, ground duels won and successful dribbles. The midfielder is clearly an all-rounder who is capable of winning the ball back, but also taking care of it when in possession, as well as covering a lot of ground. Put succinctly, he appears to be the full package.

So, would he be a good fit for Arsenal? Well, given it took until the final day of the season for Christian Nørgaard to start a Premier League match, it would appear likely that the Dane will depart. Partially due to Arteta's lack of faith in Nørgaard, both Declan Rice and Martín Zubimendi were run into the ground. So, even though Mikel Merino is fit again, as well as the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly, midfield is a priority position, and Bouaddi would appear to tick all the boxes.
