As harsh as it may sound, his England performance won't matter.

Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri made Arsenal proud during the international break. They were the stars of the show as England U21 beat Moldova, with Lewis-Skelly setting up both of Nwaneri's goals. However, if he hoped that it would inspire an Arsenal redemption arc before the season's finale, he is sorely mistaken.

Mikel Arteta has been criticised heavily for his lack of opportunity given to the young stars like Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri, with their recent performance for the young Three Lions adding more fuel to that fire. Nevertheless, Arteta won't be swayed that easily, and as much love as he has for his Hale End graduates, his strongest team is his strongest team.

The harsh Arsenal reality that Myles Lewis-Skelly faces

Myles Lewis-Skelly is good enough to start for most Premier League teams, but he's not good enough to start for Arsenal. He doesn't look out of place when he does play, but it's the harsh reality that Riccardo Calafiori is above him in the pecking order. Barring injury, that won't change.

Calafiori has been a mainstay ever since he joined Arsenal. Where Lewis-Skelly was afforded some gametime during his absences last season, it has been a complete turnaround this season.

Lewis-Skelly went from being a World Cup hopeful for England to seeing that dream crushed seemingly overnight when Calafiori returned from the sidelines.

Realistically, Myles Lewis-Skelly needs to make one shot count

After the international break, Myles Lewis-Skelly will be hopeful to start the away FA Cup fixture at Southampton. While it's a quarterfinal, and Mikel Arteta won't rotate too much, there is no reason why he shouldn't start Lewis-Skelly. He is one of those players that nearly makes the team, and those players are likely to rotate in this weekend.

After that, Arsenal turn their attention to the Sporting double-header in the Champions League, with a pivotal Premier League tie against second-place Man City wedged between.

Arsenal fans will hope to see as much of Lewis-Skelly as possible before the season ends. It's through no fault of his own that he can't make the team as much as he did when first bursting onto the scene.

However, after the season ends, the future is in the spotlight for Lewis-Skelly. Man United is his possible next destination, and while there's a rivalry as old as time, Arsenal fans know it's not beyond the realms of possibility that one of their most promising academy graduates ends up at Old Trafford next season.
