Arsenal's 2026/27 Champions League campaign kicks off on Wednesday night when they visit Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

UEFA have announced that Glenn Nyberg will be the referee in charge of the match against Napoli.
Nyberg hasn't officiated an Arsenal match since April 2024, when he oversaw the North Londoners' quarter-final first-leg clash with Bayern Munich at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta's men drew that game 2-2, with goals from Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard setting up a compelling second leg at the Allianz Arena.
Nyberg controversially denied Arsenal a late penalty in that game, when Manuel Neuer clipped Saka inside Bayern's box in the dying embers.
The Swede also oversaw Arsenal's 2-1 away win over Sevilla in the group stage of the competition in the 2023/24 season.

Nyberg has been a top-flight referee in Sweden since 2013, although he's only been overseeing European football since 2020.
He's officiated just two Arsenal matches, handing the Gunners two yellow cards, no red cards and no penalties in the process.

As for Napoli, Nyberg's relative lack of experience on the Champions League stage is highlighted. The Swedish official has never refereed the Italian giants, with Wednesday night's encounter set to be his first time overseeing one of their matches.

Alongside Nyberg as the referee will be his assistants, Mahbod Beigi, Andreas Soderkvist and Adam Ladeback, with the former two running the line and the latter the fourth official.
