The 3 best Arsenal players in the UEFA Champions League this season
By Kian Long
Arsenal finished top of their Champions League group, scoring an impressive 16 goals in 6 games, conceding just 4. While they weren't flawless in the group stage, Mikel Arteta will be confident his troops have what it takes to go further in the competition. That said, here are the 3 best Arsenal players in the UEFA Champions League this season...
The 3 best Arsenal players in the UEFA Champions League this season
3. Leandro Trossard
I think it's fair to say that Leandro Trossard was the most surprising Arsenal player throughout the UEFA Champions League group stage, with the Belgian scoring two goals, including an impressive goal in his first Champions League appearance ever.
2. Bukayo Saka
Bukayo Saka scored Arsenal's first Champions League goal of the season. It makes sense, considering he was one of the fine young players who helped the club achieve their return to the competition. In total, Bukayo Saka scored three goals in the group stage, so he will look to the first leg against Porto as a chance to increase his tally for the competition.
1. Gabriel Jesus
By far and away, Gabriel Jesus is the standout performer for Arsenal so far in the Champions League. When you think back to the Gunners' group stage, you think about Gabriel Jesus. In total, the Brazilian netted four goals in the group stage, including some pretty impressive strikes.
But it's not just his numbers which impressed fans the most, it's the way he took games by the scruff of their neck. More often than not, Jesus was the best player on the pitch in Arsenal's Champions League group stage matches. Signing from Manchester City in 2022, it's clear to see why the Gunners wanted to invest in a player with the big-game experience that Jesus had.
Next up for the Gunners is Porto in the round of 16. It's an interesting tie and one which Mikel Arteta's men could certainly win. They play against Porto in midweek away from home, before welcoming the Portuguese club to the Emirates Stadium in the middle of March.
Mikel Arteta is expected to be a strong lineup, even with the Premier League starting to heat up. After all, he will feel confident from the group stage matches that he can lead the team far in the competition.
On that note, how far do you think Arsenal will go in the UEFA Champions League this season?
