What a fabulous change from the years of long, drawn-out contract sagas.

As alluded to earlier, White’s new deal makes him the seventh first-choice Gunner to sign on in the last 18 months (excluding new acquisitions) and, now, Arsenal have of all their key members tied down for the future.

It is an impressive feat given our dismal track record in this regard, but it is also very important as it keeps us on course for the collective maturation that is integral to Arteta’s project- meaning our already competitive squad will all enter their peak years at the same time (or at least command a big fee if sold).

Proactive extensions are part of a long-term vision which is essential for surviving at the highest level and, in that sense, the White announcement symbolises how we now belong among the best.
