3. He is a talented footballer
One lesser-known reason why this is important: Ben White is just really good at football.
His many qualities have been on show throughout his north London stay, from an initial centre-back role to a seamless adaptation at fullback, and now he puts in excellent displays in the inverted position.
A hunger to cover ground adds particularly to the Arsenal right-wing threat, with his overlaps adding some unpredictability by giving Bukayo Saka more room to manoeuvre. Furthermore, his own end product this season (six goal contributions, including two assists vs Brentford) indicates he can make the difference himself once granted the licence to push forward.
Other perks include his brilliant fitness record, rich Premier League experience and his relatively young age (26), which will see him lock down the Gunners’ right-back slot for years to come (especially if he is out of the international picture…).
White ticks a lot of boxes and that £50m now looks like money well spent.
