Arsenal maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-2 draw at the home of Manchester City. Mikel Arteta's side were denied a victory in crushing circumstances but can be proud of their performance.

Erling Haaland put his side in the lead inside ten minutes, only for Riccardo Calafiori to mark his first Premier League start with a stunning equaliser from outside of the box. In first half stoppage time, Gabriel Magalhaes rose highest to head his team into the lead from a corner. Arsenal suffered a case of deja vu in the last moments of the half as Leandro Trossard was shown a second yellow card for delaying the restart.

In a bid to hold onto their lead, the Gunners came out for the second half and looked to be prepared to sit back and soak up pressure from the hosts. This tactic so nearly paid off but City substitute John Stones smashed in an equaliser in the eighth minute of stoppage time to ensure the points were shared.

Despite dropping two points at the death, there were a number of brilliant displays on show from Arsenal players but there were three standout performers in the game.

1. Gabriel Martinelli

Gabriel Martinelli has come under scrutiny in recent weeks for a string of poor performances but he looked back to his best against City. He recorded his first goal involvement since March when he assisted Riccardo Calafiori's equaliser and was a nuisance in attack throughout the first half.

The Brazil international caused Kyle Walker plenty of problems throughout the first 45. He played 12 accurate passes and created two chances for his teammates.

As his side looked to keep hold of their lead, Martinelli dropped back into a more defensive role for the second half and continued to be influential. He more than played his part, completing two defensive actions and making four recoveries throughout his time on the pitch. It was certainly a good performance from the Brazilian and Gooners can hope he will now return to his best form.
