It's all to play for in Bavaria as Arsenal played out a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night.

The players entered a cacophony of red at the Emirates given the absence of Bayern's away contingent, with the home crowd certainly matching the grand occasion in the opening stages.

The noise was deafening, and it looked as if Arsenal would embark on a memorable European night when Bukayo Saka curled his effort expertly beyond a helpless Manuel Neuer 12 minutes in.

However, the latter stages of the Champions League are a cruel mistress, and any semblance of Gooner control was quickly dashed as a string of errors allowed Bayern to transition and equalise through former Gunner Serge Gnabry.

The goal deflated the hosts, perhaps stunned at the speed with with the seasoned visitors pounced. Their possession play for the rest of the half was ponderous, and they went into the break 2-1 down after Harry Kane converted from 12 yards. I think we were all prepared for that.

There was nothing by way of a major upsurge after the break with Bayern defending resolutely while offering a distinct threat on the counter. Mikel Arteta rang the changes and added to his side's attacking arsenal in a bid to restore parity, with the boss' subs bearing fruit 15 minutes from time as Gabriel Jesus teed up Leandro Trossard for the leveller.

The Belgian set the stage for a thrilling conclusion, but it was the visitors who looked more likely to score an all-important fifth. Kingsley Coman struck the post late on with Arsenal clinging on somewhat, but some will claim that Saka should've won a penalty at the death.

Onto Munich we go.

Here are the Arsenal player ratings from their 2-2 draw with Bayern.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

David Raya (GK) - 5/10 - Not his best night. Was particularly poor during Gnabry's goal sequence and was sat down by Kane from 12 yards.

Ben White (RB) - 6.5/10 - Had to score when put through at 1-0, but made a crucial intervention to deny Sane on the break after Bayern took a 2-1 lead.

William Saliba (CB) - 5/10 - As rash as Saliba's been. The Frenchman lost duel after duel in the opening period and it was he who gave the penalty away. Kane had more joy when he peeled off the young centre-back.

Gabriel (CB) - 5.5/10 - Kane was excellent in spells, and he did outwit Gabriel once or twice - although the Englishman's elbow was naughty. Struggled more than he has done in a long time, but settled in the second half.

Jakub Kiwior (LB) - 4/10 - Hooked at half-time having not enjoyed his duel with Sane. Skinned in the build-up to the penalty.
