Positive #3 - Timber injury scare likely not serious
A devastating ACL injury last season kept Jurrien Timber out of action for almost the entirety of last season, and his return to senior football has been pleasantly welcomed. However, the Dutchman limped off towards the latter quarter of the tie, sparking concerns among the fanbase.
Fortunately, Arteta was quick to quell such concerns following the game, explaining that it may have been a cramp and not another setback.
Negative #3 - Very few forward options on the bench
After Arteta subbed on Martinelli in the 74th minute, that marked the end of the list of remaining forward options on the bench, whereas previously, the likes of Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson could all be available to shake things up in the attacking department.
Even Emile Smith-Rowe and Fabio Vieira could potentially feature in wider roles, but all of the aforementioned four departed for pastures new earlier this summer.
Not that any were needed in such circumstances of course. What Arteta did need was reliable defenders, and they were present. However, there still remains the thought of the attacking squad depth perhaps not being enough to complete the team as entirely as fans may have liked.
Instead, it is more so that the onus is entirely on Arsenal's crop to stay fit and involved. In fairness, new signing, Raheem Sterling, alongside Trossard/Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus on occasion on the bench is actually very strong.
But Gabriel Jesus has been enduring regular fitness setbacks from time to time and further issues in midfield leave Kai Havertz prone to a push back into an unnatural position as well. It's largely a precarious situation and it may have been a little more comforting to have one extra body, regardless if it were a signing or an academy prospect.
