It is well-documented that Arsenal want to sign a new midfielder in the summer transfer window, alongside a new striker. While Mikel Arteta is exploring a long list of options, there is a clear opportunity staring him right in the face: Sign Joelinton from Newcastle United.
Arsenal should consider signing Newcastle United want-away Joelinton
The Brazilian is out of contract at St James Park in the summer of 2025 and as things stand, it does not look likely that he will put pen to paper to extend his current stay. According to Football Insider, Joelinton wants to stay in the Premier League, even if he does not extend his stay in the North of England.
Newcastle have had a bad season as their squad has been riddled with injuries throughout most of the season. Joelinton is one of those players who has struggled to get a good run of fixtures in without being on the treatment table. As per WhoScored, Joelinton has started 14 Premier League matches, not great for a player who Eddie Howe wanted to build his team around.
With Jorginho ageing and Thomas Partey constantly injured, it makes sense for Arsenal to pursue a move for Joelinton. After all, he fits the bill at the Emirates Stadium and the Gunners should not be put off his aforementioned injury record, since this season appears to be an anomoly in this regard.
Joelinton has proven to be a versatile midfielder who can do a job on the wing if needed. He is one of the most prized assets at Newcastle United and in the last few seasons, he has developed into one of their best players. He is only 27 years old, so he is entering the prime of his career.
Bringing in Joelinton to add to the Brazilian flair displayed by Arsenal would be a great idea, should Mikel Arteta wish to pursue him. Transfermarkt have his market value listed at €42m
