After he missed out in midweek, Arsenal fans are frantically on the hunt for Arsenal injury news involving David Raya. Will he be ready to face Leicester?
Arsenal are unbeaten so far this season in the Premier League. Despite facing some huge matches, including Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Man City (all away from home), Mikel Arteta's side are yet to choke.
The Gunners appear defensively resilient, more than ever before in the current era. They have gone from strength to strength and a key factor is the permanent signing of David Raya.
The Spanish goalkeeper is an excellent commander of the box, which is why he won the Premier League Golden Glove award last season. However, is he injured when Arsenal face Leicester?
Arsenal injury news: Is David Raya injured for the game against Leicester?
Unfortunately, Mikel Arteta cannot provide much in the way of an answer. Arteta is unsure whether David Raya is injured for the game against Leicester, as it is a race against time for the goalkeeper.
In his own words, Mikel Arteta said: "We don't know [if Raya will be fit to play Leicester] yet, he's got a muscular injury."
Furthermore, Mikel Arteta was questioned again on the David Raya injury on Friday afternoon. To which, Mikel Arteta responded: “We have to wait another 24 hours. We have to wait 24 hours to see if he’s looking good or not that good.”
What can be said for certain is that David Raya was injured in midweek. He was not involved in the matchday squad as Arsenal beat Bolton at home in the EFL Cup.
The reason for David Raya's absence was that he picked up a muscular injury, in Arteta's words, against Man City. He was seen on the floor in discomfort towards the end of the match.
16-year-old Jack Porter started the EFL Cup game in place of David Raya. Against Leicester City, Jack Porter is unlikely to start for the Gunners, even if David Raya is injured. It was a great moment for him in midweek, afforded by Neto being cup-tied in the EFL Cup.
Neto is able to play Premier League games, so he would be the first to step up against Leicester if David Raya is injured, Summer signing Tommy Setford is also on the treatment table as things stand, presenting a clear path for Neto.
Hopefully, David Raya is able to face Leicester City. He is on a touch-and-go basis and his fitness levels will be judged closer to kick-off.
The good news for Arsenal is that David Raya hasn't been ruled out. The bad news is that he hasn't been given the all-clear to play, either.
