Arsenal are the reported frontrunners for Benjamin Sesko's signature this summer, and the Gunners are keen to acquire the Slovenian forward before the start of Euro 2024.

Mikel Arteta remains intent on adding a #9 to his squad despite Kai Havertz's productive end to the season, with the German's capacity to lead the line allowing the club to acquire a project forward ahead of a crucial 2024/25 season.

Sesko undoubtedly requires refinement, but his upside is immense. Some might suggest he'd be Arsenal's answer to Erling Haaland given his freakish athleticism, towering frame, and elite ball striking.

However, the acquisition of the 21-year-old this summer will not be straight forward.

Why have Arsenal set June deadline for Benjamin Sesko signing?

Sky Germany (via the Daily Mirror) report that Arsenal have set a 14 June deadline by which to get a deal for Sesko agreed. The Premier League summer transfer window officially opens on that date, but clubs can get deals done beforehand.

The Gunners want to wrap up their priority striker target before the start of Euro 2024, which doubtessly will provide complications.

And while Sesko is keen on a move to the Emirates, RB Leipzig, whom he signed for last summer, are hoping to retain him after a productive debut season in Saxony. Interest is also expected to arrive from Manchester United and Chelsea, so an early deal would certainly be in Arsenal's interest.

The club are hoping to strike an agreement in the region of £40m/£45m for the 21-year-old, who's £55m release clause expires at the end of June. Arsenal may be forced to pay that fee should Leipzig refuse to sell at a discounted price.

The German club are also hopeful of extending the striker's contract which would ditch the release clause entirely.

Thus, there are many factors to consider in Arsenal's pursuit of the Slovenian star. The club are wisely attempting to get a deal done pre-Euros, but interest from elsewhere, release clauses, and Leipzig's desire to retain Sesko are complicating things.
