Fabrizio Romano makes Oleksandr Zinchenko admission

Over the last few weeks, Oleksandr Zinchenko has been a contentious figure of debate amongst the Arsenal fanbase. Understandably, fans are beginning to doubt whether he is the defender Arsenal need to push forward. Last season, he let the club down against Liverpool in the title race and he appeared to do the same against Aston Villa at the weekend.

The transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on his future. The Italian journalist has claimed, via Caught Offside, Arsenal could seek a new left-back to sign in the summer transfer window. However, he did also claim that nothing has been discussed with Zinchenko in the way of his future.

In his own words, Romano said: “As has been reported, I can confirm that it’s a possibility for Arsenal to go for a new left-back in the summer. It’s not guaranteed yet because they still have to hold more meetings to discuss their summer plans, but a new left-back is one of the possibilities for the summer transfer window,”

“There’s also been some speculation about the future of Oleksandr Zinchenko but my understanding is that nothing has been discussed yet with him – the full focus is on the final weeks of the season before that.”

Arsenal to make an offer for Viktor Gyokeres

According to Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias (via Football Talk), Arsenal are preparing their opening offer for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. Interestingly, Gyokeres has a £86m release clause in his current deal but the Gunners plan to bring that asking price down, by including players as part of the deal.

It does remain to be seen which players could be included in the deal from Arsenal's perspective but early speculation would indicate that some of the fringe players including Oleksandr Zinchenko, Reiss Nelson or Eddie Nketiah could be contenders. Again, that's just early days prediction from myself and nothing concrete.

Arsenal do not wish to invest heavily in a new striker, with Kai Havertz showing great form in 2024. Therefore, including a fringe player in the deal to lower the price is a smart move - Gyokeres is an opportunity which Arsenal must not miss.
