Bayern Munich vs Arsenal preview: Prediction, team news & lineups
- Arsenal travel to Munich with their Champions League quarter-final tie in the balance
- Two sides played out a 2-2 draw at the Emirates last week
- Gunners tasted first Premier League defeat of 2024 on Sunday
Arsenal must secure a result away at Bayern Munich on Wednesday night if they're to progress in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
There was great expectation for the Gunners heading into the first leg with Bayern reeling domestically and without any travelling fans. However, the visitors overturned a fast Arsenal start and forced Mikel Arteta's to play from behind in the second half. A Leandro Trossard strike means it's all square heading into the second leg.
Arsenal have scars from their previous visits to the Allianz Arena, losing 5-1 on their two most recent trips to Bavaria. They also head into Wednesday's game having tasted defeat in the Premier League for the first time in 2024 on Sunday. Arteta's men faded in the second half and deservedly succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa, putting a dent in their title charge.
Bayern, meanwhile, handed over their Bundesliga crown to Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend despite toppling FC Koln 2-0. The German giants have long accepted their domestic fate this season, with the success of their 2023/24 campaign solely resting on their Champions League run.
Here's our preview of Wednesday's second leg in Munich.

Bayern Munich team news
The hosts have a couple of notable injury concerns heading into the second leg. Tuchel will be without wingers Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman, while Leroy Sane, who starred at the Emirates, is also a doubt after he missed Saturday's win over FC Koln.
Sane, however, is expected to be fit for Wednesday's game.
Thomas Muller should come into the side and operate behind Harry Kane. Raphael Guerreiro will replace the suspended Alphonso Davies at left-back.
Arsenal team news
Arteta's rotation came under scrutiny at the weekend, but I can understand why the boss made some of the changes he did. It was his inactivity in the second half that compromised the Gunners, not his starting lineup.
Nevertheless, we should see a similar starting XI in Munich from the first leg. Gabriel Martinelli and Jorginho are poised to come back into the team, while Takehiro Tomiyasu is a strong contender to start at left-back given Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko's recent woes.
Jurrien Timber is likely to be the only absentee. Martin Odegaard will not miss Wednesday's game despite being forced off on Sunday.

Bayern Munich vs Arsenal score prediction
The first leg was a major missed opportunity for Arsenal, although they're still firmly in the tie. The Gunners have secured results at Anfield and the Etihad this season, can they now go on and win at the Allianz?
I suspect Arteta will deploy a rather cautious game plan, pressing sporadically and springing in transition. Bayern are vulnerable to the counter and I'm sure Tuchel will be uneasy with his side dominating possession. He'd rather oversee a plan similar to the first leg, but that's unlikely on home soil.
Thus, I could see Arsenal having joy on Wednesday, but I was concerned by their second half display. They were flat and fatigued. Can they pick themselves up so quickly and secure a mammoth victory - or take the contest to extra time and beyond? I'm not so sure.
